Bullion
Bullion refers to precious metals en bulk. It is treated as a commodity in the money market and is traded both as ingots and coins. The value of both, whether an ingot or a coin, is assessed by its weight and purity; and not by its face value.
South African Krugerrand of gold is the most famous of all such coins minted of precious metals. The face value of such coins in terms of currency denomination is much less than their real metal value. The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf of $50 has gold worth $737 in it. But since it is a coin and not metal of as much weight only, an extra numismatic value gets added to it, which makes it sell for a small big fortune!
